Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Los Angeles, CA.
A companion project to Age of Mammals, Life Through the Ages occupies the mezzanine of the historical rotunda of the Natural History Museum. Knight's paintings of extinct animals are an opportunity to connect NHM's art heritage with the ongoing research that continues to shape the science on display in other galleries. Each painting is surrounded by a hand silk screened mat featuring a quote from an NHM scientist as well as an abstract representation of the subject's relationship to deep time. This temporary installation is the first art installation at NHM in over fifty years and sets the tone for future installations. This project was created in collaboration with Cinnabar.
